So, Is There an Age Limit to Who Can be an Organ, Eye and Tissue Donor?
The short answer is, NO!
Everyone – regardless of age or health – can sign up to be an organ, eye and tissue donor and potentially save lives after death. It’s important to not rule yourself out, let the medical professionals decide your eligibility upon death. Even those with chronic conditions, such as hepatitis and diabetes, can sign up to give the gift of life at any age.
In our region, the average age of tissue donors is over 60. Even more remarkable, one of the oldest tissue donors in our region was 101 years old! As you can see, age doesn’t make a difference when signing up to be an organ, eye and tissue donor, you may be able to give the gift of life! One person has the ability to save up to eight lives through organ donation, and save and heal more than 75 lives through tissue donation.
