  • 144 generous organ donors in 2017 made 407 lifesaving transplants possible in our area, while another 156 generous living donors saved lives.
  • 1,752 generous tissue donors provided an estimated 131,400 lifesaving and healing gifts to patients suffering from trauma or disease in 2017 in our area.
  • 2,687 eye donors in our area in 2017 resulted in 2,692 sight-restoring corneal transplants.
  • Nearly 2,500 people in our community are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

National

  • An average of 92 organ transplants take place every day in the United States.
  • 34,768 organ transplants were performed using organs from both deceased and living donors in 2017, marking the fifth consecutive record-setting year for transplants in the U.S.
  • In 2017, 82% (28,587) of the transplants performed involved organs from deceased donors. Living donor transplants accounted for the remaining 18 % (6,181).
  • Nearly 2,500 people in our community are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant.
  • Organs were recovered from 10,281 deceased organ donors in 2017, a 27% increase over the last decade.
  • In the 30-year span from 1988 through 2017, a total of 721,742 transplants have been performed nationwide.
